Planning for new urban growth in North Bethany

In September 2006, with the help of a team of professional consultants, a Stakeholder Work Group and a Technical Advisory Committee, Washington County began a year-long process to develop a concept plan for the North Bethany area. The North Bethany Concept Plan will establish a vision and framework for how new development should occur in the North Bethany area. Following completion of the concept plan, the County will develop the comprehensive plan and code amendments needed to fully implement the concept plan.

The 800-acre North Bethany area, located generally north of Springville Road between NW 185th Avenue and the Washington County line, was added to the urban growth boundary (UGB) in 2002. This area will be planned as an extension of the existing Bethany community to the south. The area, which is currently planned for residential development, will also encompass a mix of parks, open space, schools and neighborhood services supported by a multimodal transportation system. In concert with the concept plan, Washington County is developing a finance plan that will determine how some of the major infrastructure will be paid for in the North Bethany area.

Ways to participate

Community members and stakeholders are invited to participate in the development of the concept plan. All Stakeholder Work Group and Technical Advisory Committee meetings are open to the public. This website will be regularly updated with project progress and meeting information, including summaries. In addition, the project team will host three community events to gather input at key project milestones. Check the upcoming activities page for dates and details.

Project Update October 21, 2008

You have likely noticed that the North Bethany planning process has slowed down and SWG and TAC meetings have not been held.  Meetings will be held again soon in order to finalize the concept plan and begin the public hearings process - scheduled to begin in Summer 2009.  Please stay tuned. In the meantime, if you have questions please contact us.
